THE PERFECT TEN

THE PERFECT TEN

A Poem by Orlando Furioso
"

This cld be about La Pulga, the flea, Lionel Messi. But it isn't. It is about a mythical No.10. A man of such genius he will never be. Christiano Ronaldo cld it be he? No as he exists.

"

My boot is in this lightning place;

I strike, the ball obeys my will.

O how it rocks into the goal!

The sight that spurs a billion souls.

O now they leap in wild delight!

Some even die (it is their right).

But I, I am calm because I know,

That I was born to win this game,

That in this instant of my life,

I am the agent of the gods.

O how they scream and roar my name!

My shirt, I throw into the crowd.

~

I am the perfect ten they'll say

Now that I've won it here today.

~

There is a passion you have over the pond for the game for sure. For someone that isn't even remotely involved, I do exited when I hear the passion for the game being shared with me. I was on yahoo chat with a friend over there and hearing the yelling and screaming at the tube alone was fun for me let alone seeing it in person. And do they really throw their shirts?? I'm sure that would be quite a hit over here:)

I have a few things to learn about...what you Brits and Londoners call football. The energy in this poem has me nearly convinced that you have been in the players shoes. But..that is the test of a truly talented writer..taking the reader into the lively hood of another..that you yourself can only aspire to with your wit and imagination. You made the crowd stand on there feet...I feel flattered to have caught that white sweaty t-shirt. ;)

This is a very Olypmic-esque like poem. The originality of the topic intrigues me.

There may live no perfect 10, but this poem implies it vividly.

The great vividness of sports moments is valued 'cause so much else in life is ambiguous. The charm of this piece is its energetic evocation of the athlete's mind. You'd probably like my Disporting Life installment of ScriptureX.1, as it's a surreal sports satire.

My old man used to play Soccer (that is what is Latinos call it in the US) and I think you may have captured that winning spirit he was so proud of. I know this was not to him, but maybe to those players whom did not get the roar of the mob as they deserved.
