Rose

Rose

A Poem by Georgia

A perfect rose sitting in the garden

Striving through storms of rain and snow

Opening up to the sun as it shines

With petals so bright that shimmer and glow

All around are the lilies and tulips and pansies

With violets and sunflowers, all fully grown

But there in the middle of rainbows of flowers

The single rose is standing alone

Most beautiful of all it stands through the seasons

Other flowers grow but they soon die away

Yet no one notices the rose in the garden

They reach for the other flowers every day

Maybe they fear the thorns of the rose

The perfected flaw to the heavenly gem

Why must something so beautiful and appealing

Grow such a danger all over its stem?

To you, this rose is your perfection

Its colour so vibrant and design so pristine

Well it must be the thorns that cover the rose

That make you pretend this gem isn't seen

Your life is spent choosing the lilies and daisies

Or maybe the tulips or violets in bloom

Always ignoring the most perfect of all

That lies before you, bringing light to the gloom

One day, this too, will wilt and leave you

Without ever showing the beauty it holds

The flower you searched for but never could see

Shall fade all alone, in the wintery cold
