Defeated

Defeated

A Poem by Paige H

I don’t know enough

To do this to you,

to help you.

I cannot put enough trust in myself

To ensure that I won’t hurt you,

for I cannot hurt you.

I could not live with the thought that I had,

In my foolish quest to assist you,

been instrumental in your demise.

You lay asleep,

your piercing eyes shuttered to the world;

a child, more vulnerable in your innocence.

My mind warns me of the pain I know will come

from loving you.

I surrender to the knowledge that you can, in your beguiling nature,

cause me suffering.

I am defeated.
