For Neda Agha Soltan

For Neda Agha Soltan

A Poem by Patrick Davies

For "A Voice For Neda" writing contest.

"

Screaming men,

Silent girl.

The heart that she had

To be there

Can no longer save her -

Alas, it may save the others.

Evil men,

Thoughtful girl -

With seconds to spare,

Her intent,

Her concerted gaze howls

A haunting appeal to the world.

Marching men,

Marching girls,

Calling for the truth,

asking, "How?"

Marching with the same grit

As the blood draws lines on her face.

Screaming men,

Silent girl,

I cannot forget this.

Screaming men,

Wonderful girl,

I will not forget this.

I have never seen anything like this before. I couldn't draw the line between living and dead for this girl, she just bleeds. Was she dead the whole time? Is there any way that she could have made it? Did this need to happen?

If we never forget, then Neda's death will not have been in vain.
If the people of Iran never forget then some good will come from this tragedy.

Tell you? About me? But what of the consequences? Oh God, the things they could do to my life if I handed it over... A background from which they could merge into the foreground - a window, an opening.. more..
