Last Year at Sea

Last Year at Sea

A Poem by pearlescent
"

A poem I wrote back when I didn't want to grow up.

"
You are too young to be a cynic,
So please believe me when I say hearts do float.
Mine will be a beating buoy of everything about me you ever loved,
but it won't reveal all hope lost in the curling waves.

My blood vessels will line the coast of our city.
They will be the streetlights to lead you home,
to beckon you to where I'm sinking.
And I'll look for your eyes in the ocean trenches.
We'll follow them through the starless nights.

because I swear these lungs have reached their limits,
and I'm plunging to the bottom of this.
So do you promise to pull your hand down to the even greater unknown?
Sever the ocean in two?
Find where I've been waiting and cradle me home.
