Hate is just a meter away

Hate is just a meter away

A Poem by Phoebe Woode

It took us too long to realize

That our hearts were already anchored to each other.

Now, we won’t admit it.

Even if the written past depended on it.

Our Lips are shut like a forbidden truth.

Eyes open- ignoring each other's being.

We are two strangers who never met.

He and I are on some

Passive aggressive s**t,

Torturing each other and ourselves equally.

Whether hate is the cause or just simply ignorance,

I am not sure.

The lines between love and hate are as thin as

Everyone thinks.

With the right mistakes, you can reach both.

It took me too long to realize that my love for him

Goes beyond my control.

He is one of the few products of my impulse

I want to keep.

But, lately, he and I have not been the same.

we have been allowing rumors to control the

way we see each other.

Hate is quickly starting to cripple any feelings of love I have for him.

And,I can’t stop my heart from feeling.

Hate is just a meter away, somewhere between jealousy and

indifference.

Love is somewhere up north.

But, with the right mistakes, I have reached both.

I particularly like the way you are expressing deep gut-level honesty here, but also taking the time to craft the words a little bit (not too much, which dilutes the message many times). You've reached the right balance between a poetic expression and a blunt straightforward message. This is my favorite way to write, too. I agree that there is often so much hate in between the lines of love. You've shown this in a few different ways, here. Makes me sad for humankind, the way we get so steeped in hate.

Yes, I agree that feeling hatred is very easy, and many do.

I really like the concept- "Hate is just a meter away between jealousy and indifference" - for the distance that is created in love sometimes. Such an honest telling of the confusion and myriad of feelings in the experience of love. I also like the phrase "our lips are shut like a forbidden truth"- so often we just can't say to each other what we know to be true. A striking poem about the layers of love and the ways we communicate on the surface, when there is so much more underneath.
