Lindy, Where's Mama?

Lindy, Where's Mama?

A Poem by N.Sevilla
"

Linda (Lindy) and her younger sister Priscilla (Prissy) are waiting for their mother to come home from the bar.

"
Prissy, you better get washed up before Mama comes back.
I know it's gettin' late, but she'll be back.
You know how sad Mama gets sometimes.
Yeah, we'll surprise her when we show her how we can take care of us.
She just went to get happy, that's all.
Well, Prissy, we have Mama to keep us happy.
We don't need any grown-up happy drink.
Whadda ya mean "what if she doesn't come back"?
'Course she will! She promised!
I know that's what she said last time, but she came back didn't she?
And we got along just fine!
You're five now, Prissy! Don't cry.
Mama hasn't been the same since Daddy left.
We don't remember him much, but Mama does.
Now go get dressed.
Mama'll come through the door all happy.
She'll give us hugs and we'll play hide n' seek.
Tomorrow she'll  make us chocolate chip pancakes.
Yeah she will! She promised before she left!
Yeah she will!
I know 'cause I'm seven and I know more.
Oh! C'mere Prissy! Look it the lights!
It's the cops. Let's hide. They're not gonna take us!
Prissy, scoot over. You're squishing me.
What'd they say? Somethin' 'bout Mama?
Stay here, they prolly brought her back.
Oh, c'mon then! Let's go. But don't let go of my hand.
Yes, Mr. Policeman sir?
Mama's not comin' back?
Alright, when she comin' back?
Never?
Hahaha! Geez, Mr. Policeman, you're dumb.
Mama always comes back.
Plus, she promised.
Everyone knows you can't break a promise.

Author's Note

N.Sevilla
The only time "Prissy" speaks is at the title. The title is the first thing Prissy says which begins the poem of Lindy's speech.
"Look it the lights" was an intentional mistake. So was "prolly". There were several intentional mistakes and probably some unintentional.
