Believing

Believing

A Poem by pinksnowboots

When your mind is young and innocent
and you know nothing of the world
It's easy to believe.

When all you know of faith is what is taught in Sunday school
by the nice teacher who gives you goldfish
It's easy to believe.

When your mind is not plagued by the questions of life
and the dreadful uncertainty of death
It's easy to believe.

But when you
learn
and grow
and think
and wonder
and read
and research
and ponder
believing is not so simple.

When you see what is going on in the world today,
corrupt leaders, wars, abuse, and poverty
It's hard to believe.

When you meet a person with different opinions
and they question everything you thought you knew
It's hard to believe.

When you hear things about the Bible
and you think they just don't fit
It's hard to believe.

But if you
pray
and love
and ask
and trust
and learn
believing is not impossible.

It's hard to believe, so hard.

But believing is not impossible.

Won't comment on the Bible thing due to my believes. Generally I think that if you don't need to mention religion than it's better to do so as then even bigger number of people can identify with the story/poem.

I like this poem. It's about innocence, growing up (loosing innocence) and believing. It's a topic we could talk days about and there is a lot about it written.
For technical part there is the conflict between repetition of 'and' and leaving it as it makes it a bit different and sometimes (especially in poems) less is more.

"It's hard to believe, so hard.

But believing is not impossible."
Awesome lines! Maybe would add "is not impossible." on separate line to add more effect to it ;)
