keeping

keeping

A Poem by Pinky

I have a problem with keeping odd trinkets

For example every funeral I have gone to

I still have the leaflet

I have a f*****g quarter

From getting drunk and playing quarters

With friends

I have a petal from a fake flower

Given to me the 1st time I was acidly empowered

To transcend

I have a fluff of fur from my last cat

I even have a f*****g beer bottle cap

A f**k tab from a soda can too

And from my Pontiac firebird

I have a screw

I am a f*****g fool

I still have notes from not just high school but middle school

A beer label from an intoxicated friend

came up, gave it to me and said “ here never throw this away”

I still have cards from my 12th birthday

I have pages from an address book over 10 yrs old

I have so many things completely worthless…

then again memories cant be sold

hahahah this piece is actually really great!! lol if i read it, i'd still have given you the same speech, but i definitely love this piece so much - the rhyme scheme is really fantastic :)

yes yes i get it i understand. i certainly dont judge you, cuz i was that same exact way. and if it still worked for me, i still would be! :) so it's all good. even on this trip of mine, it's hard for me not to keep everything! lol but then my car would fill up real quick :)

i like the concept. you acknowledge that you have sentimental value in everything. i used to be that way.
times have changed!

The last line of this poem - really captures this poem. You reminesce of old memories, and the trinkets you have saved are interesting : ). I would like to see what you accumulate in the years to come.

It is a random moment from the soul. The form is not important in this type of writing, or so is my opinion.
I like this, for in your last line, you came to realize that memories are important. Keepsakes are to, they are like keystones that mark each episode of life. One just need hold one in the hand and the memory races back into the fold, like accessing an email. The question, that must be asked and pondered, is do these items hold happy or unhappy memories, or memories with important learning lessions as you grew? Those answers would allow you to know which keepsake is keepable and other not
Or so my opinion goes! :)
