Believe in Us

Stand by my side and I can face the world.

As the world challenges our love and faith,

I will stand by you steadfast.

I believe in us.

All I ask is that you do as well.

Not the hollow guarantee of a blissful future,

But the promise of a labor toward happiness.

I am not naive to the mountains that we must scale,

Nor do I shrink from the specter of possible defeat,

But I believe in an ending that entwines our futures,

And I refuse to face the world without you.

Ours is not the thin veneer of infatuation,

Nor is it solely the giddy joy of love anew,

Neither only the heady desire of lust alone,

But the fullness of a love complete.

Challenges we shall face,

And mountains we shall scale,

Be open to the future entwined,

And we shall help each other believe.
