The Thing About VoicesA Poem by Madeleine Celeste
The thing about voices
is that over the course of evolution where we've traveled and lived all over the Earth we've gone to space, we've dived into underwater caves where we've invented and created and we have destroyed and burnt and now here we are where we constantly see others and even though we don't know it we try to be a little bit like them our voices are all still different You might know somebody with a voice like an angel Or maybe a voice that could summon a devil but their voices the way they say words they way they sing and speak and laugh and cry are only vibrations sent into the air but they all sound different your voice could mean a lot to somebody your voice could tell stories your voice can comfort someone and the most magical thing about voices is that whatever you do for someone whatever you tell them they will associate those words you have spoken with your voice if you are kind to someone and you tell them that you believe in them when they think those thoughts they will hear your voice and to them you are the voice of "I believe in you" or you are the voice of "you can do it" or "It will all be alright someday" "I am there for you" "I'm sorry" "I promise" "I love you" and a million other words all belong to your voice in someone else's mind so when you say something to someone always remember that whatever you say and however you say it they will remember you they will remember your voice
