Vacant, Submissive

Vacant, Submissive

A Poem by Clarisse Nanoit
"

Wrote this a while ago, but lost it in The GREAT DELETE.

"

Forever they have known each other

and been acquaintances; never more,

but recently, her eyelids have been opened,

and she can see him like never before.

And when they stand and talk together,

he listens to what comes out of her mouth.

But he answers honestly and distantly.

His blue eyes are like an empty house.

So, she moves on and thinks she finds love

and doesn't know dif'rent until too late.

After marriage and a house together,

Hell breaks loose with the furling of a plate.

His anger is unmatched by any she has seen,

and after years of abuse, she tells him, "Get out."

There is no way she can live with it all.

His heart is like an empty house.

Trial after court appearance;

the divorce is eventually final,

and after six years of suffering,

she's free with the banging of a gavel.

She goes home to vacancy

and looks at old pictures alone.

She looks at images of before her husband

before the Unattainable was gone.

A family picture of family friends

and her blue-eyed flame sits sound.

His smile brings about a lonely draft.

Her house is like... an empty house.

excellent. fantastic piece of poetry. great rhyme scheme and going back to the empty house over and over again was an excellent idea, and fit perfectly with the poem. great job.
