God Wears Gucci

God Wears Gucci

A Poem by Pete

They sleep in parks and doorways.
Eat from trash cans.
Converse with squirrels.
Sip soup in his kitchen.
Bathe in the rain of redemption.
They convene in his woods and bask at his beach.
Lift themselves in his light.
Caress themselves with his breeze.

Feared and despised.
Their images are etched in stained glass for eternity.
Silent, sanctified soldiers of salvation.
They know him and converse with him.
When it rains, it rains on everyone.
They are not blinded by the things of this world nor chilled by its coldness.
"The last will be first, and the first will be last."
Street people may wear Dumpster and the devil may wear Prada but ...
... God wears Gucci and gets the last word ...

Author's Note

Pete
“It is never too late to give up our prejudices. No way of thinking or doing, however ancient, can be trusted without proof. What everybody echoes or in silence passes by as true today may turn out to be falsehood tomorrow, mere smoke of opinion, which some had trusted for a cloud that would sprinkle fertilizing rain on their fields.” - Thoreau

This is superb, particularly the last couple of lines. It is an atrocity anyone has to be on the streets in this day and age, this is something I, as many, feel strongly about, sigh...not right. A poignant poem Pete, one that reaches far with its message :)

for sure Dr. W., for sure. the silent soldiers ...
thank you.
Through bad luck, misfortune, breakup, mental breakdown, etc, these people had a life like us once, its just sad so much aid goes abroad to give that image of goodwill by our governments while they neglect their own forgotten people leaving volunteer workers to care. A touching, warm, but sad, emotional write my friend.

this world just breaks my heart!
Strong image with well-penned verses.

Sadness of our world is reflected in the eyes of these people. I love the thought put into this one.
