'Cereal' Killer

'Cereal' Killer

A Poem by Pete
"

There is considerable danger that a man will be crazy between dinner and supper; but it will not directly answer any good purpose that I know of, and it is just as easy to be sane. - Thoreau

"
The Potato Eaters by Vincent Van Gogh

His name was Kevin.
A real 'Special K'.
He had dandruff like 'Corn Flakes'.
Lived his life according to the 'Basic 4' pillars.
Once, he traveled to India to pay homage at 'Kashi'.
He loved to comb the beach, picking up smooth 'Cocoa Pebbles'.
He once got stung by fooling around with a 'Honeycomb'.
He won a gold medal in the olympics by eating his 'Wheaties'.
He had served with the Navy in the Persian Gulf under the command of 'Cap'n Crunch'.
He wasn't insane, but he always started each day with a bowl of 'Froot Loops'.
He was, however, coocoo for 'Cocoa Puffs'.
Always able to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious with his 'Alpha Bits'.
He was very generous and would go around handing out blank 'Chex'.
His girl was a 'Honey Bunch of Oats'.
Oftentimes hitting him with 'Sugar Smacks'.

He ran with scissors and played with fire for 'Kix'.
Keeping some 'Krispy Kritters' around the house as pets.
Rubbing their feet as 'Lucky Charms'.
His bovine Nellie wore a bell around her neck and was one 'Crazy Cow'.
At night, while he slumbered, 'Boo Berry' haunted his house.
That was ok because he could always call 'Ghostbusters' when he needed.
He loved watching scary movies while he curled up on the couch with 'Count Chocula' and 'Franken Berry'.
He would sit around in his underwear and scratch his 'Grape Nuts' as he changed channels.
Next door was a house of ill repute where the girls were always turning 'Trix'.
When he started his car, it went, 'Kaboom!'
He ran the paper shredder at work making 'Shredded Wheat'.
His wife would inquire as to what he did all day to which he replied, "Nut'n Honey".
Oh well, it's all just another day of ...
... 'Life' ...

"As we grow older, we live more coarsely, we relax a little in our disciplines, and, to some extent, cease to obey our finest instincts. But we should be fastidious to the extreme of sanity, disregarding the gibes of those who are more unfortunate than ourselves." - Thoreau

Oh, this is funny. As I read, I recalled cereals bought for my three boys when they were growing up, as well as my own youthful liking for sweet, crunchy stuff from a box. Very clever, the way you worked all those brands into a story. The only cereal I can think of that wasn't included is Post "Toasties". The classic painting used to illustrate is a great choice, too.

This is brilliant & hiliarous! I didn’t have kids, so I’m not familiar with all the cereals. But you’ve managed to work in the names without it seeming like a stretch in any spot. In fact, the way you use these names is even more fitting than we expect it to be, as we’re reading along. It’s startling how you make the names feel so right & perfect for the sentiments. I love the supercalifrag . . . line – incredible imagination! I also love the grape nuts scratching, which is too much! You’ve definitely outdone yourself with this little gem! It inspires me with a slightly different approach . . . gotta let this one percolate for a bit! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A very witty write Pete. Creative and Inventive. I very much enjoyed it. That image you posted by Van Gogh, I am left thinking, they really should lighten up at meal times.
