If I were the man I want to be I would not falter.
I would kneel steadily at faith's alter.
I would dance in the rain.
Despite life's pain.
If I were the man I want to be I would not waver in adversity.
My spirit would carry me when my flesh was weak.
I would have a good woman standing beside me.
I would love people who can do nothing for me.
I would knock down walls and still be able to see.
If I were the man I want to be ...

I enjoyed all the quotes and found your poem most interesting. I guess many of us don't really know where we were going when we set out and wonder where we have gotten to as life progresses. Indeed yo beg the question well in this piece.
