I Want to Paint a Picture

I Want to Paint a Picture

A Poem by Samuel Dickens
"

Shining a light

"

I want to paint a picture, one with many shades

of varying bright colors--dynamic, never staid

I want to paint a picture that looks like real life

Displaying the complexities of happiness and strife

I want to paint a picture that speaks a thousand words

Made of fact and logic (though some, this may disturb)

I want to paint a picture that shines a bright light

freeing closed minds that see in black and white

I'm surprised I never saw this. You not only tell stories but unbeknownst to me did poetry too. Due to current climates, I think this is quite suitable to feature. Too many minds are closed or suffer tunnel vision for the wrong reasons.

Excellent poem Sam.

Another very well expressed effort
If you do pull it off, you should make a fortune on the re-prints

Thanks. It's a dream, but a worthy one.
I am happy I found page 45,937 with this poem haha
You are a great storyteller, and I would say the same about your poems.
The Third line was my favourite.

Thanks, Diane. I don't consider myself to be a poet, but sometimes I try.
i hope you paint your picture in vivid colors
or capture the picture with expressive colorful language...

Thank you. Though I paint very little these days, I still try to express myself.

that is what counts.. do whatever makes you happy express yourself always
Age showing maturity here,Sam. Being constantly bombarded with political "doublespeak" and biased sensationalist news, it can de-colour our view of life.
As you say, a brighter picture, based on a balanced palette of thinking is called for.
A thought provoking and well written analogy.

Thanks, Norman. In this increasingly messed up world, such notions seem futile.

Thank you, Annette. Truth and honesty mean a lot to me.
A perfect poem for the times and one that leaves one feeling there is still hope for a better day to come. What a wonderful painting it would be. Love this write Sam.

Thank you, Dara. So glad to have brought you a little joy.
Digging back into your archives, I'm amazed at how this older poem of yours applies to today's world so well! This is exactly my current dilemma, trying not to let the political climate drag me down into a constant rant & instead being able to maintain my focus on the beautiful parts of life that can't be legislated away. As always, I love it when your seemingly artistic messages end with a social comment I very much agree with! (((HUGS)))

Thanks, Margie. You're the best.
If you could paint a picture that would open up closed minds, you would be one famous dude. I long for a picture like this, Sam. Get your paints out, nothing wrong with trying! Angi~
