Rock 'n roll!

Rock 'n roll!

A Story by Samuel Dickens
"

Marty wants to rock

"

Marty heard a tapping sound at his window.

Tap-tap, tap-tap!

"Hey, Marty, open up!"

Marty quickly drew back the curtain and saw his pal, Stuart, gazing at him through the glass with a giant grin on his face. Raising the window, he said, "Hey, man, what gives?"

Stuart shoved a concert ticket in his face. "The Stones, man! I got you a ticket--see?"

Marty snatched the ticket from Stuart's hand, devoured it with his eyes and cried, "Far out, man!"

Stuart giggled and caused the tall ladder he stood on to wobble. Grabbing hold of the window sill, he told Marty, "C'mon, man, let's go before I fall off of here!"

A look of dread consumed Marty's face. "I can't."

"Why not?"

"I'm grounded, man; pinned down by the big, fat thumb of oppression."

His eyes glazing over, Stuart could only mutter, "Bummer."

Honk! Honk!

Stuart looked over his shoulder. "They're here for us, man! We gotta go!"

Marty gazed at the ticket in his hand. R-O-L-L-I-N-G  S-T-O-N-E-S

Honk! Honk!

Stuart, in his most authoritative voice, said, "Marty, you only live once."

Marty pounded his fist on the window sill and replied, "Yeah, man, you only live once! Screw 'em--I'm going to the concert! Rock and roll!"

Stuart carefully climbed down the wobbly ladder, then steadied it for Marty. About half way down, Marty grumbled, "Aw, crap, I forgot something," and climbed back up to his room. Moments later, he came back out and made his way down to the ground.

Stuart asked, "What'd you forget?"

Marty shook a bottle of pills at him, grinned, and said, "These."

The two climbed into the awaiting car and sped away from the Gentle Days old folks home like they were going to a fire. The guy driving asked, "Alright, who brought the pills?"

"I did!", replied Marty.

 "What are they--uppers? Acid?"

"No, man--Viagra."

Who were the pills really for, Samuel? I know Mick Jagger was always going on about that he can't get no satisfaction.. So why did he have to bother with wearing a knighthood ?? 😁
But with a plot as wobbly as that ladder , it was a great giggle - so thanks for that .

Let's get us some really tall rocking chairs so we can see over the crowd!
Hahaha😅🤣😂loved this fast tale. I wished I'd had a friend to remind me of that YOLO (you only live once) I probably would have actually lived a lot more.

Thank you. I'm glad it made you laugh.
Wherever this came from, we are lucky you listened to your muse. Thank you for sharing this delightful little romp. There was a news story a while back about two men in Germany, missing from their assisted living facility, that were found at a heavy metal festival. It happens.

Thank you. You validate my effort to entertain.
Well you got me good and proper. I had visualised the guys in the 60's just as you wanted me too - you rogue lol - the 'grounded' idea was a great red herring Samuel.
A masterclass in sleight of words.

Yeah, I guess I was a little tricky. Glad you liked it, and thanks for reading.
The title beckoned me as I love The stones :) I really loved this! I don't want to say too much about the progress of the story as it would kind of give it away, but...nice twist! It made me smile and then laugh. I found it heart-warming. Thank you for sharing. Loved it! :)

Thanks, Tina. A bit of humour was my aim. (I love the stones, too.)

No problem at all. It was entirely my pleasure :)
Haha...this can describe me in my old age...I only hope that whatever old guy I meet at the show has brought his stash. Very fun and well written piece.
