Where did the fire flies go?

Where did the fire flies go?

A Poem by paul sal.....

                Late summer

                Music is in the air

                Sweet mist envelopes the day

                Serene is the outcome

as I hear one of my grandchildren

                ask...

                Where are the fire flies?

                Hmmm, there were thousands

                lighting the night

                when my chidren were young,

as I think about the question,

I want to teach my little love something of life,

But, I am lost for words

                Can someone please tell me

where the fire flies have gone.

Searching for beauty whilst being oblivious to the beauty already surrounding the one who yearns for beauty; quite a lovely scene you paint with words and an even lovelier message. Using children to symbolize the difference between you and the person searching for beauty is poetry in itself; well done.

It is when the summer is late, and one feels the serenity of the evening that we take time to give pause and note that which was once familiar is no longer as present......the little children ask as they note when the familiar has become unfamiliar. Please tell them that they are still there, if but in their memory for it is the sweet memories of life that help us appreciate that which was. We must not forget them.

Poignant! And much the more because of the children.

Paul science can shrink to the lab, fire fly can shrink to story books , humans can shrink to creature of oblivion
