Madness

Madness

A Poem by Jofer Serapio

Madness…

Is the world going mad?

Is it nearing its end?

Tell me so I can prepare, daddy.

Why are there many people dying in the news?

Why are there many people fighting?

Can’t they get along?

Why can’t they, daddy?

Why do people hate us, daddy?

Why do they try to bring us down?

Do they really need that green paper that much?

Is it really worth seeing others sprawled on the floor, breathless?

Daddy, why do they do this to us?

Why was Uncle Jim dragged in jail?

Was it really because he was a drug pusher?

Or was it because they needed someone to get the blame?

Is the world really going mad, daddy?

What should we do?

I’m scared, daddy.

I wish it wasn’t true.

I just loved the way you repeated Daddy in the piece, just seem to bring forth such a sadness in the world today. To me daddy could go both ways, you could actually be talking about a dad or in fact the way that I read it, you could be talking about our heavenly dad, specially with all the questions asked.

I think we all end up thinking that this wasn't true, but sadly it is!

Very thought provoking piece, thank you for submitting
