Underneath My Skin

Underneath My Skin

A Poem by sutoraika
"

It will always remain.

"

Fighting a shadow is futile

For it will always be there

Lurking behind me

Watching, waiting

Even in the light of day

It stalks and moves in

For the kill.

The panther crouches

In the ebony darkness of my form

Otherwise unseen if not for its eyes

Sadistic in nature

Delighting in its prey's vulnerability

The hunter

The killer.

It resides inside my skin

Creeping in my veins

The very blood I bleed contains

the madness I cannot defeat.

Whether in waking life

In sleep

Or in death

It remains in me

Lying dormant

Till it's time to kill me

once more.

Your choice of words and detail is excellent, very vivid.

"Fighting a shadow is futile
For it will always be there"

Those first two lines drew me in for the whole ride, setting the tone of this piece.

Well done!!!
