Loneliness

Loneliness

A Poem by Peter Anil Mathew
"

Being a superstar has its own draw backs.

"
Loneliness is a drink
Shared by few
Drunk by many
Better than vodka
or any other gin.
Can be drunk in shots
or in pints.

But how long will you drink
Until you drink the last drink
Into the sweet bitter hands of death
Then to realize
That you weren't alone
But you were making yourself
Drink the bittersweet cup of loneliness

Loneliness is a mistress
Who everyone visits
From time to time
But it depends upon how long you want to stay

But we are mere humans
We don't know how long to stay
Cause we believe
When we are lonely
The inner beast comes out to play

But little do we realize that
The beast comes out
Not to play
But to force us to drink
The bittersweet cup of loneliness

So my children
Listen to me carefully
Not to drink the cup of the lonely
Cause once drink it
You will find the world of sadness
And of pain with it

Cause once in there
You will be tormented
To stop playing
With the mistress
Whose name is loneliness.

I think that we are the core source of our own happiness or sadness; and sometimes, we have to return to the well to fill ourselves up again. Otherwise, we are of little use to others. When that turns into loneliness and being alone to the exclusion of all others, I feel that is dangerous. I think we all desire that human touch, but it's a matter of finding balance, both for yourself and others.

Good - the topic of your poem will connect with many. I think our modern way of life is the cause of many problems including loneliness. It is an affliction from which you feel it is hard to escape. One small mistake - I guess mare should be mere.
All the best,
Alan

I liked the personification of loneliness. The metaphors you used are very apt. Great comparison too. I really liked this.
