                                                        Chapter 1

The day had begun and it was very calm and peaceful in the village of Laveth. Lived with his protector a safe and humble life was a young boy whose name was Mackenzie. Though he was only seventeen years old, he knew quite a lot about the Gods. He knew that they were strong and brave, but little did he know of how brutal they were. He and his mother, Rosaline both lived in a small stone house with a barn located next to it. There also was a small garden behind their home and a small river where Mackenzie would spend most of his time trying to forget who he was. He sat on the river banks looking down on the green waters staring at himself. His big blue eyes reflected back at him and there was nothing on his mind for he was truly lost in his own little world. He waited for sunrise like all the other days hoping to begin his hard day's work. While staring at the water he had heard the sound of caws coming from up above as loud as if thunder had roared. He stares towards the crows and notices that they were twelve in all. He wondered why they were all flying in circles, he had a thought that the smell of death were near. The thought of someone had died was all that came to his mind. He then felt a warm gentle hand resting on his shoulders, when he had turned around he saw that it was his mother Rosaline. She had beautiful black hair that had already passed her shoulders and her big brown eyes showed concern for him. "I've missed you last night. Were you with the fisherman's daughter again?" asked his mother. "I was" he replied "but it's not what you think." "If it is, it's perfectly normal for a boy your age" his mother told him with a smile. "Lyra is just my friend and besides she'll be made a wife on the morrow. King Malcom of Earagus chose her to be his bride. There are thousands of girls in the entirety of the north and he chose her. Last night was the end of our friendship." "This king Malcom, I've heard he's a year over sixty and he's bald and he's fat" said Rosaline jokingly, trying her best to cheer him up "I'm sorry, I know it hurts now but one day you will find someone who will love you more than life itself." He nodded his head with a forced smile upon his face "Why can't the day be tomorrow." "Let's get to work" she then said. As she began to turn her back to head off he quickly grabbed her hand while staring deeply into her eyes. Rosaline could see that around his eyes were a bit darker than usual. She knew in that moment he hadn't slept in quite a while. "It happened again, in my dream. I saw a shadow of a man with bright red eyes standing above all the dead. He held a staff in the shape of a fork, the same as my birthmark." his face had shown fear and his heartbeat had quickened with just a single thought of what he had dreamt. "What does it all mean mother? Tell me." She kneeled before her son touching his dark hair with her gentle hands. She could sense the fear that was placed in his heart. She stared back into his eyes and smiled as if it was nothing more than a bad dream. "My child there is nothing to fear, all will be well. I can't tell you what it meant but I can tell you that there is nothing to worry about." As she said it, his thoughts of fear had gone and all was well for the time being. After a long day's work, Mackenzie looked around and saw that the place was beginning to get dark. He notices that his mother was still working and was watering the crops. He left her there in the garden while he carried a few crates of freshly picked grapes and olives. A half hour had already past and Mackenzie was waiting in the farm for her. He had taken a bath and was impatiently waiting to have supper. Rosaline was finishing up for the day but had run out of water. She looked down on all six barrels and saw that it was empty. "Mackenzie?" she shouted three times. He came running out of his home with clean clothes and his hair neatly combed back barely touching his shoulders. He wore a red leather pants with a white shirt tucked tightly in while his sleeves were properly folded. He wasn't at all big and full of muscles but tall and fairly lean. "Did you call me mother?" "Yes I did, three times" she replied. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you" said Mackenzie with a softer and more polite tone than hers. "It's alright, I need you to fetch me some water from the river, we're all out." He took the two wooden buckets without hesitation and was on his way to the river. He was almost halfway there when a bright golden light had appeared in the sky and was descending right before them. With it came a man dressed in golden armour with a sword stuck to his waist. Fire surrounded him when he had descended and everything that was near him had blown away. Rosaline had fallen with the cause of impact while the man stood before her staring with his deep grey eyes and short dark hair. He was tall and muscular and was the size of two grown men and where he stood had sunk. "Let me introduce myself. I am Aries, son of Zeus" he said with a loud voice "I am the God of War and your time in this world is over." When Mackenzie had heard the sound of impact he dropped the buckets and had started running back. "Mother" he shouted. He ran faster and faster until his breath was slowly running out. When he had finally reached his home, he saw Aries choking his mother draining her of each ounce of life that was left from her body. Aries had broken her neck and her lifeless body fell to the ground. "No" Mackenzie screamed at the loudest he could. He fell on his knees while tears fell from his eyes. Aries pulls his sword out and was ready to kill him to. Aries swung his sword towards Mackenzie aiming towards his neck, but then a golden light appeared and with it came a women dressed in the same colour armour he wore. She stood behind the God Ares with a silver dagger in her hands. She had long dark hair and light blue eyes. She shoved the dagger deep into his back before he had any chance of swinging his sword. His sword had fallen to the ground along with him while his blood slowly drained from his body. "You will pay for this sister" he said slowly while he struggles to speak.  A golden light flashes while Aries ascends to the sky. "Who are you?" Mackenzie asked while looking at the Goddess. "My name is Athena, Goddess of Olympus. I am here to protect you. We must leave now" she replied. "You're a God?" he asked as if he did not believe what he had seen. "Yes I am and the man who killed her was my brother Aries and the women he killed weren't your mother but a protector." "No your lying, she was my mother" he replied. His thoughts were filled with questions and his face with curiosity. "Aries killed your mother when you were just a child" the Goddess explained "he hated her for bringing you into this world. He wants you dead because of the man your father is." "My father" Mackenzie whispered to himself. "Your father is Hades" said the Goddess "that is how important you are. We must go quickly, if we stay here my brother will return and you won't be important any longer." "I'm not going anywhere until I see that she's buried." Mackenzie insisted they stayed a bit longer and so they did. Hours had passed them by and Mackenzie was standing on a hill not too far from his home; he looks down on Rosaline's grave while tears ran slowly down his innocent face. He had piled a few rocks on top her resting place while he kneeled before it. "He will pay for this; I promise you mother. I will get revenge for the one who murdered you. You may not have given birth to me but you will always be my mother." Athena joins him in his time of weakness; she places her hand gently on his shoulders while she stood behind him. "She died believing in you; you are here for one reason Mackenzie and one reason only, to save this world from those who would wish it harm. You have said you're goodbyes now it's time for us to leave." "Where are you taking me?" he asked. "In a place where no one can find you; not even the Gods; somewhere safe" she responded. "And then what?" he asked quickly. "And then you're training begins."
