flower girl

flower girl

A Poem by linda m. crate
"

Of flower girls and weddings.

"
i was a flower girl at my mother's wedding
so forever more
i have and will remain
the flower girl smiling in lilies
brooding in hyacinths
scorching with daffodil rage
weeping with tulips
snobbish as petunias
impatient like roses held back by brush
easily uprooted yet resilient
i always grow back with petals
prettier than the last;
rising from the ashes of my defeat
seeming unscathed,
but the fractures of my heart would tell you
otherwise they know all too well how
many rose petals have fallen into
the well of despair or how many yellow
shells have blazoned with fury "
i blow like dandelion dust everywhere i go
no hope only abandon lingering in my
bones; maybe one day i will spread my roots and
grow lovingly into a flowering tree, but today
is not that day "
today is the day i bloom entropy
hanging on the backs of every etched star
in heaven's garden.
