tedium

tedium

A Poem by linda m. crate
"

I am my mothers, but I am more than that.

"
tedium
"you look like your mother"
i was never sure if
this was
a compliment or a sneaky
insult
cleverly said to my face
so others could laugh behind my back,
and i always nod and agree;
yes, it's this thing
called genetics"
tell me that you like my smile
or that i have pretty eyes
laugh at my jokes
or tell me that i'm amusing,
intriguing,
anything at all;
but don't tell me i look like my mother"
it's all i've heard my entire life,
and i'm getting sick of
the lack of originality
i am me,
and she is she;
we are two different people
no matter how similar we look"
i can never escape my mother for she is a part of me,
but i can run from you
your tedious comment is one that
lacks depth or imagination
it's only stating
the obvious
plunging my mind into a state of
tedium.
