Lost

LOST

 

 

I wish I understood

more and better,

the intricacies of life.

Like why the tree of life

occasionally loses one of its leaves;

or why my wolf spirit is so restless.

And why you sometimes

get lost in shadows.

 

I know you are there,

as I feel the beat,

beat,

beat

of your heart;

hear the softness in your breath,

and can see

the words form on the mist

when you speak,

as I track and follow

your scent

around the grey

that surrounds you,

and leads you to the abyss.

I whimper, then howl,

hoping for one last

feel of your hands

caressing my face,

of your arms hugging my neck.

 

My wolf spirit

cannot help

the empty feeling

and pounding loss in my heart.

I've missed seeing your new material here! Very glad you're back & producing at a new level of originality. I think the layoff might've done some good, as this writing has a new fresh quality. wow redzone...this breaks my heart ... i know this feeling too well...my wife died at the tender age of 30 ..i felt as if i has shaken from deep sleep, rustled out of bed groggy and hit with the flat of a 2x4 ..spun and hit again ..then told to get to work ..now ... i can only say that my Lord Jesus and the wonderful Spirit of God on Earth lifted and carried me for a long time ... i was simply too lost to be capable .. well done ..it was a long time ago in my life but i am grateful for all those memories your poem inspires in me ..its an affirming thing to have "survived" ;) and stronger more secure as a result .. thanks for sharing friend!

i agree ..our walks through pain and loss .. and everything in our past when i think about it; stays with us ... shaping who we are ... giving nuance, empathy and understanding to our noodles ;) i am in the quiet waters ...serene and calm .. of my life... very little can ruffle the deep of it ;) oh... i may need some Excedrin or Pepto from time to time to keep me there ..but it don't take much ... love ya man!

thanks Pat, I love where you went with this poem, much more positive than me... we do need dreams and spaces to dream in.... but ssometimes even though we do all we can to make those dreams real, we lose and become lost... but we always need to keep on dreaming..

thanks Robert, yeah, I loved that video/song, thought it added some depth to the poem... and thanks too for your kind words and review... we most definitely are "communal beings" which is why for me I cannot understand this "me first/ America first" attitude that our society has adopted... but this poem is more a personal "lost"...
