Killing Love

Killing Love

A Poem by Kevin Taylor
"

Unrequited love? How original.

"

I stuff it down into the bottom of my heart,
So that it may fall out the hole below,
I'm glad to be rid of rid of that loathsome part,
Glad to leave it writhing in the snow,

Twitching, bloody on the frigid ground,
Tread upon by those who pass it by,
Help for it is nowhere to be found,
A tear appears in it's sparkling little eye,

"You won't bother anyone now", I say,
As I stand aside to watch it expire,
Though very much to my dismay,
It begins to march towards who I admire,

"No, you won't cause them all that pain,
Not as long as I am here to intervene,
I intend to leave you here, beaten and slain,
My love will not see something so obscene",

I kick and stomp it into the icy world about,
In hopes of leaving it crippled or dead,
And unable to carry on, so devout,
So as not to reach my love, just ahead,

Though it screams and shrilly cries,
It never once stops to stay behind,
"No matter, this will end in your demise",
I say, "and at last I'll have my peace of mind"

It is crawling still, with the last of it's life,
And so I attack now, fiercer than before,
I plunge deep within it, a stone as my knife,
We're so close now, to the one who I adore.

Did she see? Did she see my brutal act?
Her look is all but indecipherable,
Under my knife, there's nothing to react,
I hide the corpse, it's most abominable,

I bury it in a small patch of greenery,
As I have with her the loveliest chat,
About the coming springtime scenery,
Still worn weary from previous combat,

We walk off together in no uncertain way,
We'll continue to be good friends to one another.
As my love for her slowly begins to decay,
Rotting in the earth, now something wholly other.

Goodbye my love, hello my dear friend,
It is so very nice to see you again.
