amidst the rubble

amidst the rubble

A Poem by Britt Foster

captivated:

an abandoned room

washed in dust,

coated in memory,

and rich

with hollow nostalgia.

forgotten life

 in the dark,

whispering remnant and nighttime

in melodies,

and purring

with our presence.

spectres -- they saw it --

the energy

s t r e t c h e d

between us.

the flame was lit,

but still it shivers

in the faint breeze

of indecision.

spitting ember,

 i wonder --

will it burn?
