Ladies

Ladies

A Poem by Raven Wilson

The sight before you
shows little true nature
- a gentle hand
- a calm face
- a cool demeanor

Beneath my skin
I feel on fire
my eyes dance.
If I were free to be the me
beneath my skin
would you look at me as you do now
with no ugly crease upon your brow

Beneath my skin
are emotions improper.
Storms are brewing
Could you see me, still,
as a lady?

Would you love me
if you could see beneath
or are you in love
with an image no woman can keep?

Bundled in layers
with slippers beneath
- a corset
- some petticoats
Is this all you see?
A tiny waist of artificial means
rosy lips and pinched pink cheeks
is this all in a wife you seek?

Are you looking for a wife
or are you looking for me
if the latter you seek
its beneath my skin - buried deep
the truth is there
- easy to see

You'd be amazed how many guys are like this too. When women speak of finding a "great guy" they're really deluding themselves. No matter how great anyone is, they're still human. This is really powerful prose. Nice!

The overall message is very powerful and it is beautifully written. I enjoyed it

I like the overall message of this one. You basically question wether women are attractive to others based on the exterior and what is temporary, and not what lies on the inside. I believe that's the message you are trying to get out there to the reader!

I like the non-traditional rebel thing going on here.
Charm school expectations are ridiculous. All people
should be free to be who they are without judgment
passed upon them.

There are many stereotypes and archetypes that women
are bound to without any logical reasoning...

I like this poem alot.
