Love Advice

Love Advice

A Poem by Chip Murison

Everything dies
Including love.
But you can lengthen its lifespan
If you water and feed it
Unfortunately
Like a rare orchid
It's is hard to keep alive.

Too much water or too much fertilizer
It's a goner
Too warm or too cold
It wilts and turns brown
Too much attention
Death sentence
But ignore it
Hoping it will take care of itself...
One day you turn around
And its just gone.

How do you keep love alive
When it's always trying to fly out the window
Or go down the drain
And the s**t hits the fan
And there's not enough money
And the garbage is full
The car needs inspection
The taxes are due
And there's not enough time
To think...
About love.

How do you keep love alive
When your partner gets fat
And selfish
And manipulative
And everything has to stop
In order to "talk about it".
And they're wanting more time
While your thinking more space
But the kids
Make it complicated.
And there's something
(Not sure what it is)
That makes you stay
For more
Because there is something
Still flickering

Hang in there
That's best advice I can give
But I give that advice to everyone
Going through heart surgery.

What oh what shall I do when I have finished reading all of your work???? You will just have to continue the pouring out of your soul :) This is good advice..take it from a woman who has been married 40 years..the weeding and gardening and tending and loving is never ending.

I love writing that is REAL. Roses, sunshine and laughter have there place, but too much sweetness can be sickening and I always become suspect and mumble sarcastically, "Yeah, and they lived happily ever after." The words you use are spot on, I applaud you.

Honest and true words and thoughts.
"Hang in there

But I give that advice to everyone
Going through heart surgery."
Love need constant gardening. Lovers need to be reminded often. They are the only one. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Gee
A whole heap of common sense and truth, all that's missing is the greener grass...you're good Chip, very good

Hanging in there is what we do best. Rarely having the time to reflect on where we are and how we got here, because as you say, the garbage always needs emptied, the something always needs mended and everything always needs paying, leaving us to juggle with marriage, kids and all the lives held in those fragile relationships, while never quite finding the time to clear one's own head of the clutter.
But still, it flickers.
Superb.
