Screamo in the Studio

Screamo in the Studio

A Poem by Heather Clayton

I stand up to the mike
I shimmy; I shake
singing full force into the handspike
Singing what I could make
My drummers on the drums
the guitarist on the riffs
there is nothing but hums
and split-second shifts
I howl and I scream
into the mike up to my mouth
I sing, I sing, I dream
and then I shout.

"What's this all about?"
It's about rock and roll
the king of my soul.
And before I finish this take
I pull off the headphones
waiting for a remake.
Realizing I made rock and roll songs.
I live, I dive into the music
it frees me and my spirit
with a hum and a click
for I am down with it.
