Brand new eyes

Brand new eyes

A Poem by Mikayla Rasmussen

Ashes like rain,
dust like snow.
I was hurt,
more than you know.

You sing your lullaby,
you stand so tall.
you croon the chorus
and watch us fall.

We once sang with you,
until it dazed us completely.
For you are the only one
who could ever sing so sweetly.

Even though it hurts
when the rain falls on your skin,
you didn't think you were evil,
for you did not know sin.

It's really only perspective,
something against ones beliefs.
For a lot of us our sins rain down
like fresh Autumn leaves.

And as I lay on the ground,
half asleep,
and notice you take this time
to weep.

Don't cry beautiful one,
we are not mad.
You were just ignorant to the fact
that you were bad.

I know now,
you just didn't understand.
You just wanted to be loved.
And I will hold your hand.

Because I know the secrets,
I have heard the lies.
And I still love you,
with my brand new eyes.
