SMOKER PART-1

SMOKER PART-1

A Poem by Chandler bing
"

A world seen through the eyes of the smoker.

"
                                                                 SMOKER part-1
It started out as a simple experiment,
just to gain acceptance among peers he did it,
Not liking at first he took small puffs,
He wanted to throw it but his hands were cuffed,
He just wanted to gain standing among peers,
falling into an abyss he could no longer steer,
It wasn't too late when his parents go to know about it,
shocked as they were they didn't know face it,
they seldom tried to talk him out of it,
failing every time he resisted even harder,
now he had started hanging out with hustlers,
for he had learned a trick or two on how to trestle,
some said he was a chain smoker but to him it meant eternity,
the gates of which could be opened by that magic stick,
with passage of time he started using different stuff,
but nothing could match that magical butt,
he smoked away with glory and pride,
holding that magical stick like a bonny bride,
But one thing always confused him,
the statutory warning said injurious to health can cause cancer,
but to him his cigarette was his lover and how could it let him suffer.

This is a great piece that really captures smoking and the baggage that comes with it. I like the peer pressure points that normally kick starts this process. Great work.

An enigma in itself, the accepted drug for years and now a war rages against it, however social implications means it literally will be a battle for the death.

I think you do a great job on hinting at the idea that smoking opened up doors of status and social standing here in this piece. That because he was seen as someone "who smoked" he was accepted by a certain group (even if they weren't the best people to be around). I like how later in the poem you seem to hint that his smoking caused him to fall in with the "wrong" crowd, as if because he smoked he showed a sign of deviance and then became more deviant himself. I like that challenge. I think it ended a little weakly, but I get where you're going. I actually think the last part about a lover, could start a whole new poem! Well done!

I really love this. The topic can be relayed to just about anything that someone can be addicted to, rather it is smoking, alcohol, etc. Well written.

I smoked and dipped when I was deployed. We all did. It was a way to stay awake on long missions and to relieve boredom and stress. I stopped when I came home. I didn't see the point to it then.
