Sinful Love

Sinful Love

A Poem by Rosie Brooklin

I'm in love with your coffee eyes.
I drink them in with three creams, three sugars, and a cigarette,
while we plan the day ahead of us.

If this was my eternity, I'd be blissfully content,
because you are my heaven.
You are also the earth beneath my feet,
providing stability in the midst of my flooded mind.

I've always had an affinity for chaos,
yet I fight for peace.
My heart's dichotomy finds rest in you.

Night falls upon us;
I adore your whiskey stare.
Please stay a while, so I may have a sip.
We'll be much more acquainted in the morning,
and we'll indulge in coffee and a cigarette,
as we forget that it ever happened.

I liked the honest conversation and how you used the description. You made the situation come alive for the reader.

Very unexpected love story & I'm always looking for original writing. Your first stanza is so well written, we all wish we could think up something that clever & honest. The reason your storytelling in a poem is so unusual -- some of your descriptions are about a couple who seem to have a mostly "barroom" romance, coffee, whiskey, & cigs. This cheap shallow idea sandwiches your poem, first & last stanzas. But in the middle, I see a complex narrator that is far more interesting than just a common acquaintance over drinks. This produces a dichotomy & you even use this word in your poem, as if to plant this idea (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is beautiful on so many levels. I'm in absolute awe of your ease. Every word to the next is personal and vulnerable.
Fantastic poetry.

Me too! Why would you wish to forget it ever happened?
Obviously you were so much looking forward to your being
together. I love your expressions of expectations, but you
leave me confused.

Take care - Dave
