Poison

Poison

A Poem by Rosie Brooklin

Darkness surrounds me, illuminated only by the dim light of my cell phone.
The silence is deafening, and my thoughts struggle to be heard.

Why is it that when I'm sober, I feel the most intoxicated?

Perhaps it is because loneliness is the deadliest poison alive,
breathing through the deepest chambers of my heart,
and stealing the desired air from my lungs.

I wish to be love-drunk on your kiss
and high on your touch,
as your silk words lull me into a peaceful sleep

But instead, here I lie,
terrified of the nothing that surrounds me.
Wishing for the man who completes me

Loneliness can be terrifying if you cannot be content in yourself- we need to learn to love ourselves even when there’s nobody to give us the love we yearn for and desire- knowing you are loved accepted and perfect in every way also helps with the loneliness - accepting what cannot be changed brings peace and serenity- well written 🌹

It is often very challenging to face yourself at the end of the day. Silence can create the most deafening noise and be overwhelming. Our mind acts as our greatest motivator, however it can be a more threatening adversary. I like the depth here. Great read.

A clear message, clearly stated, not a lot of flowery poetry language and symbols, which is refreshing. Not sure that loneliness being poison would correlate with sobriety feeling like intoxication, but good turns of phrase I suppose. hopefully she will find this man to complete her!

Loved this one Rosie. Some times the intoxication of stark emotion stone cold sober is so much more debilitating than alcohol! You spun this well!

G'morning... This was just to let you know someone stopped by and paused ...to listen, understand, nod ...and even wish. You take care.
