Time,

I have known you

You have known me

We shared life’s pain together

Once,

I was alone

I held but tears

Soul in despair--painful

Then,

I had empty hours

I had empty days

I had empty years

Time,

I knew not of life’s joy

I never knew love

Was forsaken--empty

Then,

Came a welcome time

And a joyous day

When awoke my dreams

Now,

Did I first gaze love’s eyes

How I swelled with hope

Yes, I felt whole, then

Time,

Now I know where joy lies

Time, now I know my heart’s place

And, now in such peace I can rest there

By her grace, my soul’s been rescued

Time,

I have found Love

I have found Peace

I have found Life

Now, I have Strength

Now, I have Dreams

I have such Hope

Now I can love

Now,

I have been saved

I am redeemed

I am restored

Now, I’m alive

Filled with such Joy

My life fulfilled

All through her love

...And how I love her

This lyrics were powerful and the melody only helped it. An emotional write that I was very glad when it ended happy! You can see how much strength and power love gives the person speaking of it. It’s vivid and colorful and feels ever strong and even elegant. I loved the concept of time being a friend rather than anything else. Usually, it’s an enemy. It really takes you for a whirl as you read it and you can’t put it down. It genuinely accurately portrays how fulfilling love is, and all the time it took to finally get there. And how through all that time, waiting, you love her and that’s all that matters. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful piece.

An evocative write. A wistful kind of melody, I would say. Your lyrics fit the tune perfectly. I am a musician and songwriter myself, but I have never co-written a song. I write my own melodies and lyrics. I'm sure it can be rewarding to do a co-write. Music is one of life's great joys.

Love is so powerful. When love is in your life it can give you strength, yet at the same time can be as gentle as a lamb. A life without love, is a sad one indeed. I am reminded of the difference a special person can make. They can bring colour, joy and hope. Sharing can be so liberating. Love can remove the negatives as well as moving mountains. Beautiful work Rick. An inspiring read. Good to ponder on your lines again. Health and happiness to you in abundance.

and you do free verse so well, as well.
The music so enhances the theme and feel of this piece.
Many poems are about how time is not a friend to us, that it goes by too fast, ages us, but here
Time is a friend taking the journey of life with us.
nicely done,
j.

what a lovely confirmation
of love and how fulfilling
it truly is; once two are
entwined in an everlasting
thread of a time span
beautifuly expressed..

nice w ork ..Rick

It is surprising what love can do! You lovely poem celebrates the joy and wholeness we feel when we find the 'right' one. I like the structure of your poem as it leads from 'time once' to 'time then' to 'time now' ending on the simple, but sincere line, '... And how I love her.' But we must remember that we can feel love in out hearts, even if there is no 'object'.!

Beautiful! As I read, I envisioned a caterpillar, a cocoon, the chrysalis, then the butterfly, that evolution to winged freedom where the soul can fly. Love has set you free. I love your wings.
