Spectacles

A Poem by Sabbath_Nikole

Response to my poetry workshop

"

Bright black rims

Superficial plastic

Suck light from space

Lending human visage

The stale hollowed

Look of death

Extenuating purple bruises beneath

Splendidly bedecked lids

Hooked legs

Wrapped ‘round the shell of

A pale ear

Carrion wings: another telling of

Mercury’s winged-tipped shoes

Oily rainbows

Fractured and Jagged

Spread wide

As if to take

Life

Twice the eyes of man

Alluring lenses

With a rose tented hue

Illuminating

Half the empty sockets

Of an

Arachnid

Two smooth spindly legs

Rather than furred

Translucent

As if spun from

The spider’s belly

Features caught in web

Spun cotton candy

While the glass reflects its horror

Hung around a beefy neck

Beak replaced by

A hawkish, porous

Nose

This features, furred parasite

Fixed to

Empty

Human guise

Having lived 75% of my life looking through glass lenses, I feel you've captured that sensation of having wire n' plastic s**t stuck on your beak every waking minute, n' turned it into something truly weird n' magical! N' "Bright black rims/Superficial plastic/Suck light from space" sez it all, bro! ㋡
