Why

Why

A Poem by Sadani Atapattu
"

Most of the world is poor, unable to accomplish their dreams whilst the rich covet for more and more, wasting and leaving the others with nothing.

"

Many people pass away

Each and every day

Children of parents’ heart stricken

And beloved friends unforgotten

Yet why worry and fight

With those who love us whilst

Blind to greater losses of the other

Why not praise those still alive

Homeless with no hope

Ragged clothes no shoes

Food, water scarce each day

Most of world friends this way

Yet why covet

For money, cars and clothe

Wasting coin buying

Then throwing away

Why not just be at bliss

Of what we possess

And learn to share

A word that will forever glare

Some born intelligent

Whilst some not

God has gifted each one

A power to help each other

Yet why avail this glory

To raise fame name

In a race outdoing the other

In one way or another

Why not just share

This talent and unique skill

To enlighten the world

Making a better place

While we don’t have

We eager above all

Yet when already won

Why forget actual worth

Yet in contrast

While it’s already there

Left obsolete and forlorn

Until the moment of loss

When own pray for more

When not just weep

Yet asking for more either way

This greed if consistent

Leading to tragedy

Will cease humanity
