Trapped

Trapped

A Poem by Sadani Atapattu
"

The poem speaks of true love and what it really is.

"

Stood mesmerized

Frozen dumb and deaf

Unable to reason why

Was it love at first sight?

A person so acute

Smart yet simple

I saw within you

The opposite of me

Those days we met

You made me feel low

Unworthy of your concern

So I despised you above all

Girls that surrounded you

After time of departure

You kept in contact

For days weeks and months

Friendlier than usual

Like they say that one

Sees its worth whilst gone

Your words each day

Turned hatred to love

Now a bond that cannot let go

Making me believe

In the magic of true love

Being there for you always

I spoke too much

Too much to make you

Ignore me once again

But this time not anger

What remained was pain

Too late for hate

Cause love replaced its place

If you truly love

A person so deep

You can never bear

Feelings of hate

When true love fails

Trapped solely in time

In a world of pain

Aches replace heart beat

You taught me good

With love comes not jealousy

Piercing one’s heart but pain

Trapping one in darkness

Now mesmerized once again
