Walls

Walls

A Poem by sarah

You were always a mystery to me
I never knew what to expect
Or how you would react

You always kept yourself at a distance
You never allowed yourself to get to close
You were always thinking of ways to escape

I could see it in you
That you wanted to keep a distance between us
You didn't want to let me in

But you did anyway...

somehow I broke your walls down
I broke your shield
I caught you with your guard down

You let me in
Completely
And wholeheartedly

You let me in...

And I did the same for you
I let you in completely
I took my walls down just for you

We gave large peaces of ourselves
Of our hearts
To each other

We hoped
And prayed
That our trust would lead to good

But that didn't seem to be enough in the end....

I was broken
Shattered
I fell apart

You built larger walls
Bigger then before
No one will break those new walls you built

Not even I....

I stayed shattered
You just built thinker walls
And while you built I could see you hoping

That no one would break these walls
These new walls
These new thick shields

You built a shield so thick
So strong
So tall

No one can break in
No one can hurt you
No one can make you feel

Anything....

It's so hopeful in the beginning and in the end it's so depressing. But I do like that at first there is hope, it's very true and relatable. Many things don't turn out the way we thought and hoped they would. I thought this would be a love poem and in a way it is but it just doesn't end with a "Happily Ever After." Very full of emotion and powerful. I liked this!

Hard to break down a wall of disappointment. Many reasons to be wished to be left alone. Take a good friend willing to listen and be around. I like the description and story. Friendship is hard. Walls can be took down. Just need some sunlight and happiness to sneak in. A excellent poem. I like the detail and strength of your writing.

I enjoyed how you told the story, the signs of the end were hinted at in the beginnings. When I say story, I don't mean to undermine the personal aspects of this poem.
Love always teaches us, no matter what the outcomes are. I'm sure your heart beats in a learned rhythm now since after.

the only way to love to give yourself wholeheartedly..walls are built to protect people from themselves..they just know it..and end up feeling lonely and isolated
