Alternatives

Alternatives

A Poem by Sami Khalil

A song to be sung...

Alternatives/By Sami Khalil

A song of lovers

Baby…

It is up to you

It is up to us

Two strangers

Fading into pain

Fading into the blue.

Two shadows, reflecting,

What is true!

It is up to us

To hang in there

Hold tightly to the message

“Love is our strongest weakness”

Without a clue.

To keep our spirit albums alive

In seasons long overdue.

So, what’s next?

To play the bands

Of the nights

Of time machines

In shallow graves

Without a view.

Speak up, baby

You give me the chills

The vibes of living

While wistful meanings

Come through.

A state of hope and confusion

Where dusty scenes wind once blew.

Speak up, honey.

I’m here forgotten, acclaimed

Nostalgic, happy

Fearful, safe

I’m here because of the alternatives

I’m here because of the mystery

I’m here because of you.

Wow oh wow! A thousand apologies for neglecting my read requests so long (preoccupied with prose writing), but this was worth the wait. But I always have high expectations for your poetry. This has such imagery and intelligent diction it's amazing!

Its beautifully rhythmical and easy to sing to, haha. There's precision in the words and in the thoughts they express, all in brevity. I loved the beginning and the ending and well, everything in between! Awesome work, Sami :)

Hello Sami,

This was very well written and would make a great song. It is also a beautiful tribute to entertainers who still touch our souls.

Thank you for sharing!

Kind regards,

Schatzi

having alternatives is a power humans share ... my dear Mother loved Andy and Perry as well .. so if they were on ..my alternatives came to naught .. watch and endure or leave the room ;) today i admire Andy ..he had a voice and really knew how to sing ...Mr. Sinatra never had a show on TV that i remember so he never presented himself as an alternative for me ..however, later in my life, .. i thought he had a great deal of chutzpah and murky dangerous "connections" that intrigued this boy in the 50's and 60's .. however ..i never thought he could sing ;) your poem sent me searching to find the song they had in common ... and decided it didn't really matter .. they are both icons in the industry .. your tribute expresses the refining strengths that music can have on our lives ..read it thrice and each time my predominant image is of dusty old 78s .. too many laid to grave .. could not find a store to buy a replacement needle for quite a while ;] ..but hope rang true and now the turn is on the table ;) wonderful tribute ..your respect for the time and the artists is strong and admirable ..best of listening to ya sir!

I can hear the tones of this, the hazy ebbs and flows and it renders me thoughtful of so many scenes Sami. You always inspire and uplift me :)
