Humming of a New Day

Humming of a New Day

"

I hear the humming of a new day,
the sun kissed chill of early morning
glowing strangely upon
a corpse left in the alley.
Brains twisted in an agony
of defeat.
Life departed but
now peace descended.
I hear the ringing of the phone.
I answer it,
pretending I am another voice.
Nobody is home but
the lights are on.
The corpse out back
stinks the mind.
I light a stick of incense
and frolic with it
in my hands.
Around the yard I dance
the soulful melody
of death.

I hear the humming of a new day,
and the shouts of people
who have discovered the body.
With them, I turn to see the face.
Grey stench that assaults
the nostrils.
Body is lying on its stomach.
A man gently turns it over.
A gasp of wonder and surprise;

The corpse is me.
