I never knew lonely / 'til I knew you

I never knew lonely / 'til I knew you

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

Here I am (again)
all by myself (again)

I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

My favorite place to be was always by myself,
Then you walked in and took my heart off of the shelf.
You polished it and kissed it, taught it how to feel.
You spoke and somehow convinced it
that your love was real.

But here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

The love from a flower was enough to make me fly,
Then you clipped my wings but still convinced me I was high.
You touched me and I trembled; I thought that it was you.
But perhaps I was simply carried away
by feelings that were new.

And here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

I was so caught up in your words I forgot to hear your tune,
They say the moon can make you crazy so it must have been the moon.
Before I met you I was happy, and my soul was free.
You loved me for all the same reasons
that you hated me.

So here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

When a guy walks in and loves you, it changes everything.
Where before there was nothing—it feels like everything.
You showed me the world from a different angle, with a different light.
But that doesn’t ease the ache inside
or make what you did right.

Because here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
and

I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

But perhaps I was simply carried away

Oh now that's a good expression of what is often felt and not able to be put into words at that moment of experiencing them.
In love with the excitement or the emotions overwhelmed.
You did a wonderful job on this!!!I related to Dales sentiments of how someone can love you and be trying to change you at the same time and then dump you for being you. I'm glad I've learned and have grown, now I'd say 'good riddance', you don't deserve me anyway!

Nicely expressed. It has a flow without adhering to perfect meter, a very natural sort of poem, that seems it must have been very cathartic to write. I think most everyone can identify with the feelings, too.

This is a very well written expression of the seasons of love. It shows how fragile and vulnerable our emotions can be. And how selfish and self centered the ones that we trust can be. How difficult to love again. How painful is the trust once broken. You have done a grand job at putting together the weather of the heart . Just know that you stand alone in your ability to transpose those emotions so precisely here, yet are among friends who have experienced the same emotions. His loss for sure. Great great write!

God you know how to express your feelings with such a forceful rush... sometimes when we get caught up in love you are blind to certain thing around you,

You loved me for all the same reasons
that you hated me.

these lines really made me think cause it is so true how someone can love you for who you are but then try to change you or dump you for those same reasons, something I never understood.

Anyways another powerfully emotional piece that makes me say WOW!!

This was a lyrical take on love. It reminds of of a Cure song. I wish I knew how to play an instrument because I would write a somber tune for this.

This is such a simple little poem, but it speaks volumes. Honestly, I was humming it in my head as it came to the second 'chorus.' You should really consider putting this to music, if you haven't already. I could see Alanis or Jewel singing it.

p.s. I never thought anyone else felt that way, either, about loving life, alone, and having it ruined by love. It has happened every, single time with me.

Thank you for helping me see I'm not alone. :)
