the company we keep

the company we keep

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

I want to surround myself with strong, soulful people.

People who use words like 'goodness' and 'truth' in

everyday conversation.

Individuals who believe that integrity is not a matter of pride

but of purpose

and what we do when no one is watching

defines who we are.

I need those who not only understand that life

is filled with music

(but hear it, too):

the sweet soft sounds of the soul.

This is what keeps them breathing

(their hearts beating)

and when they hug me...

I feel a little closer

to the Truth.

I want people who smile even when there is pain

and who attribute the rain

to the pursuit of the colors

within the earth.

Individuals of character and mirth

who laugh from deep inside their selves.

I want to be near people who believe in letting go

(in letting feelings show)

and who will never compromise the beauty

that their hearts

only know.

So if you sit beside my hearth

I will light this fire

(for you and me)

For I wish to surround myself

with Authenticity.

Forgive me

if I take your hand

and press it to my palm.

For your beauty is the balm

my soul has been seeking.

the energy of words, the need to break what could easily be seen as ships passing each other in the night or shores unreachable from island chains, or even more mental, the notion that one is of a lighthouse all the time.

This couldn't be more true Kara. My sentiments exactly. I try very hard to surround myself with those that celebrate my life and in essence, I think that's what you are saying. And, I am all for being friends with those that don't hide under a mask and false fascade for I would rather have a true friend tell me the truth, as long as it is done in love, than to appease me with false flattery-for that is not TRUE friendship.

I love the heart and soul you put into this girl, and so glad you and Kelly had a good time! She adored you... Kelly is a sweetheart, just the same!

You said several things that caught me: what we do when no one is watching defines who we are. (This is so huge). If we are living separate lives-one for private and one for the public, we are not being true to who we are and we are completely void of PEACE.

I want to be near people who believe in letting go

(in letting feelings show)

and who will never compromise the beauty

that their hearts

only know.

For I wish to surround myself

with Authenticity.

Being REAL is so important! Your last stanza really wrapped it all up. I am truly sorry I haven't reviewed more of your pieces because this one is brilliant=A true masterpiece! BRAVO Kara! Carole

Another amazing piece. You must work really hard on your poems, because the end result seems effortless.

I love your description of the soul you been seeking and how you valve all those special qualities. Your views are quite touching and render a sense of wonderment "a rare but special tranquility" that moved my souls and convinced me to look deep inside while glancing down to see if your hand was in balm with mine

I love the line:
'I want people who smile even when there is pain / and who attribute the rain / to the pursuit of the colors
/ within the earth'
and of course I like the general philosophy these words express.
It was a pleasure to read.
Thanks for sharing.

I love this! I'm not going to break down one favorite part in this piece because the whole poem IS my favorite part.

You have a way of writing that speaks to a vast majority of people, no matter what walk of life they happen to be in. Every race/gender/social status etc...can identify with these words. Great read!

Ahhh I really like this one!

"I need those who not only understand that life

is filled with music

(but hear it, too):

the sweet soft sounds of the soul."

Oh I know this feeling and I long for this as well. So many only see darkness even when they standing on the sun itself. Excellent Poem~

This is a beautiful declaration! They say if you take a clean sponge and put it in dirty water, it will come out dirty. I believe in your approach to surrounding yourself with the best, and that will come to you as well. A wonderfully written poem with so much goodness to be explored in reading over and over. Thank you, I'm saving this to my favorites!

I think u might be referring to me up there... :))))
Ok joke apart...this was a very tough ask. People tend to change and someone as u mentioned is really very hard to find, but.....but...if only we can change ourselves a bit and let others reflect the same character as yours, then i guess world would be a bit different then it is now. :)) And this is another tough ask...hmm...why can't we just keep things simple :))))
A good right...hope ur heart is weightless and soaring, smiling.
