Problem Solved

Problem Solved

A Poem by Michael G. Smith
"

....

"

I felt the need this day

To pen more of some nonsense poetry

But my mind rejected the will

And each and every time

The pen touched down

It solved another problem in the universe

This was something that came to me reading Rutherford's poetry, but it is aimed at all of us who intend to write one thing and something totally different emerges.

HAH! This is great, something that most writers can relate to... yet with an ironic exaggeration that makes one smile. I only wish I could solve a problem of the universe with each stroke (of the pen). There have been times where I had an idea, and I would start writing it, and at the end I was confused why it sucked... (the opposite of this) everything individually was good, but somehow it flopped (those moments where your skill with the medium cannot keep up with your expression and/or imagination). Fortunately this doesn't happen to me often anymore. On the other hand, I have had some amazing experiences, where I would get in a certain mood and just start writing what came to mind... and then pass out and go to sleep (seriously, writing is sometimes like sex... : ) The next day I would read through it, and couldn't believe how good it was, far better than it had seemed in my mind. This happened with my first short story I even attempted (Alone in this Grave of Ours), and after that I have been addicted to writing short stories.

You don't have to tell me I read your work and you my dear are a problem solver. Merry Christmas.
That's a wonderful stanza. Definitely something that happens to each of us. My cousin says the last line of a poem holds power to change the entire meaning of a poem!

Sometimes there are other forces at work inside us.
I usually don't know where I am going with a poem until I get there...but its fun to see
what we come up with...Rose

I here ya! I start out with one idea and before I know it I end up somewhere else.
Ah, I've had that happen! It amazes me how much my mind can wander from one original thought to something so totally different than what was planned. But, I enjoy that spontaneous diversion into something different, it gives a fresh pair of eyes, and variety from a one track mind. A new look at something, it can change everything. Much enjoyed, nice piece.

Yea, I wanted something new lol
Interesting influence. I like the result. Each time your pen creates a poem, I think you've solved a problem of the universe. Really enjoyed this.

Thanks Cassie for an uplifting comment. I needed it today.
What I gather and look over me for I am not feeling well, I see feeling, mind, will- to me will is heart speaking. I see mind in battle with heart, But heart always wins. How is everything your way?

Math replaces poetry? Perhaps the two are more entwined than we think... An interesting quick read.
