only ashes

i was listening to only ashes by something corporate when writing this

 Only ashes                           10/08/09

Piece by piece and bit by bit

I’ll tear me apart until I find it

Digging through the mess that is my mind

Searching for the reason that I bury myself

In my mistakes,

 

I know what I should and should not do

So why then, do I continue on this path?

Trying to get closer to you

When all I do just brings us further apart

 

I’ll burn it all till only ashes remain

And I’ll lie in the embers

Ignore the burning pain

I had a chance to avoid the flames

But I fed the fire until it engulfed me

 

Piece by piece and bit by bit

I'll put back together this heart

I’ll find a way, I’ll find the tick

To start the beating again

And make everything alright

 

I know what I can and cannot do

So why do I continue to try

When all I do is make it look like lies

I really enjoyed this. It's amazing how sometimes you know that you are on the wrong path yet you do nothing to change course. Something I can relate to as I'm sure so many others can. I like the ending. The lines:
"So stay away until I'm finished
And maybe then we can be friends"
You know you are not in the right place to be able to be at that point with the person. Nicely done.
