My Best Friend

My Best Friend

A Poem by catwoman
"

It is in rememberance of my best friend-my childhood pet

"

He was there,
To see me stand,
To see me fall,
To watch me grow.

He was there,
To follow me to school,
To bring me back home,
To guide me through wilderness.

He was there,
To see me cry.
To soothe, me no less,
Than any other.

And now I stand,
Watching him close his eyes,
To leave the chaos of life,
To enter into serenity.

He was there,
But now he leaves,
I try in vain,
To make his tail wag once more.

The void he left in my heart,
I know not how I'll fill,
Oh please, give him back to me.
My friend, I love you.

This is a wonderful tribute to your best friend, Catwoman. I know all too well the sorrow of losing beloved pets, and I have written poems about them as well. I love the structure of this poem, and the sadness captured inside. Keep writing, and welcome to WritersCafe! :)

This had my in tears! It is so hard losing a dog, they are a part of our family, they have personality, and they show unconditional love. Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem!

I trust my dog above my best friend, any and every time without a doubt.

A wonderful peice of poetry, reminds me of my first dog when I was 6. He unfortunately died after being hit by a car 4 years later, but I loved him still. Overall, nice work.

We do get very close to our pets. They love us back, no judging us, just loving us. Hard to replace isn't it? Valentine

Just....Wow!

I'm no poet, but still, this is excellent, and the minimalism really ads to the feeling of sadness.

it's as if this was written in the recent wake of the pet's death.

Overall, really good

thanks for reading and leaving a review :)
I like the dedication of this & the emotions show through in the entire piece...I would also like to invite you to Pet Rainbow & share this remembrance with others...if you have a Facebook account...please post this there...and give others the value of your beloved pet...its our new site devoted for pet lovers...really glad I got to read this work...I would edit a bit for clarity in one line, as I will note on the bottom:

He was there,
To see me stand,
To seem me fall,
To watch me grow.

He was there,
To follow me to school,
To bring me back home,
To guide me through wilderness.

He was there,
To see me cry.
To soothe, me no less,
Than any other.

And now I stand,
Watching him close his eyes,
To leave the chaos of life,
To enter into serenity.

He was there,
But now he leaves,
I try in vain,
To make his tail wag once more.

The void he left in my heart,
I know not how I'll fill,
Oh please, give him back to me.
My friend, I love you.

thank you for taking the time to read it :)
A very touching tribute to man's best friend. Oh how well I know of this pain. One small mistake: You forgot the "M" in 'him' in 'Watching him close his eye'. You are very gifted in your poetry writing.
