Stitch And Patch~

Stitch And Patch~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

Mirror mirror on the wall

covered herself in velvet and damask

under guise of shadows

she stitched herself into a witch suit;

an old woman made of bones collapsed in the corner of the bar

her skull filled with mead

her palsied hand a dish for tea leaves

Mirror mirror on the door

tip and tap

for a girl with a thousand stories moving under her skin

tied with sinew against her soul

by a deadly prince patched together with oxycodone

who had taken her dreams with a well placed, apocryphal  kiss

Mirror Mirror in the palm

girl without lips to sing her stories

a witch made of an endless sequence of funhouse mirrors

showing girl her threadbare gown beaded with shifting ghosts

of girl past, girl was to be

a ruby apple, plump and ripening, between her teeth

“Poor princess, how to eat an apple when the prince has your mouth

stitched so tight. Lucky I’m a witch tonight.”

snow white  girl cannot smile without lips

but her eyes dance their way back to life

apple red, apple slice

little starlight glowworms

each with a curve of girl history

connect the spaces between endless reflected images

pour their magik into the pores of girl

choking her doppelganger

refilling her with her own soul

and chutzpa

Mirror mirror on the wall

smiling witch chewing through the threads of her skin suit

girl with cherry mouth open on a thousand stories

pouring from her cheeks

staining dying walls with brilliant colors

one step

two step

dip

and curtsy low over the sleeping prince

bathed in television light and beer

a wedge of apple in her kiss

Snooki’s maniacal laughter

teams with alarm clock scream and shatters against the dawn

creating a situation

coffee trips its stream on a patchwork rug

that sucks the body of the prince into the hardwood

coffin

underneath

an apple core lodged in his throat

“My apple, my apple, my apple!!!!!!!!”

girl screams all the way to the cliff

edge

where her story had lain abridged for a thousand and five years

now open

for her skin to lay the next chapter . . . .

{The girl spat the straight edged razor from between white teeth

her skin a patchwork of reds

pretty as a deadly picture in the dizzy spin of cop lights

a heart in her basket

her voice solid and strong playing with sing song synonyms

as they cuffed her dainty wrists}

Kerry asked for psychological terror and your pen has woven an eerie tale that reaches into the darkest corners of the imagination . Striking symbolism in the transformation of the Witch , her skull full with the elixir of honey dreams , scrying the tea leaves in her palms . an oppressed princess , her queendom of precious words , denied by a selfish dragon of mundane mediocrity awash in the light of a mindless TV , here it meets it's fate. we enter her mind , feel her story , her apple , a mythic paradigm crossing the timescape , a Dragon slayed and a woman awakened

Wonderfully dark imagery shadowed by a touch of the spirit of the season. This piece touched the inner reaches of my psyche.

A perfect way to imprint this wondrous literary painting onto the readers mind.

Well done!

that part there makes me think of the whole our actions speak louder than our words. The poem as a whole makes me think of "be careful what you wish for".

Jeepers creepers I must say you spun one wicked tale.

You're a beautiful mind. Any a*****e beast that would try to silence the innate gift you possess is a hollow man. Move in with us. (: We love you.

Your re-rendering of the fairy tale is both extraordinary regarding its emotional impact and emotionally crushing regarding its psychological anguish. To take the voice of a songbird is the greatest immorality, the greatest evil.

Inside a physical prison the caged bird still sings. You're incredible.

Eat him up like air! I went and read the idea and rules of the contest. You more than delivered, you opened your skin for all of us to wear throughout this breathtaking trip into the dark lands of emotional bondage. You break my heart sometimes, you know.

'Mirror mirror on the door

tip and tap

for a girl with a thousand stories moving under her skin'

i loved how this worked as a modern retelling of a well-loved fairy tale with so many unexpected twists you write a new adventure, some details remain - the apple, the witch, the mirror but by the end we know this is poetry of the imagination, dark and inviting with a mouthless princess and a sewn up witch, a buried prince and girl arrested with razor blades in her mouth (also loved the way you developed the mouth theme through the poem). This is startling and edgy poetry that sends ripples to the very edge of the waters of the mind. Frightening? - With all this astounding imagery - definitely...
