They Call Me Gifted

They Call Me Gifted

A Poem by Sirius King

"

They call me gifted

I got it down to an exact science

You can call me scientific

Poetry personified

Powerfully prolific

 Rhythmic

So addicting you’ve become dependent

You’re so lost in me

You have no choice

But to defend it

I’ve turned you into a believer

When you were just a cynic

You’re sick

I’ve infected you

Sending you to the clinic

Untreatable

Wide reachable

My mind is an epidemic

A disease that destroys

The things that you

 Were taught to mimic

And shows you

That the world around you

Is a cleverly designed gimmick

They call me prophetic

I say no

I’m just not afraid to

Point out the pathetic

Power hungry people

Whose sincerity is synthetic

The futures in their hands

And you’re content to let it?

Some call it rhetoric

I call them irrelevant

Speaking out of the side

 Of their necks

Hand held out for paychecks

Employed by evil-Ignoring the Hell of it

They call me gifted

But they can have the same gift

If they open their minds

Don’t disregard the signs

Refuse to stand stiff

Then watch the world shift

I really want to try something like this, I keep sitting down to write a poem for America, but I'm not American, so I just get what I see on t.v, I'm sure being there is a whole different kettle o' fish. You've got (in my opinion) a hip hop flavour, but I do see your work first and foremost as poetry. Good work sir

Thank you!
I Love Donny Hathaway...you rhymes are fire...I love the message in the end, bro...it's true, that you put your mind to it and practice and study, they may posses the same skill...a great ode to hip hop.

The flow of this is on point. The message you bring slams home in the last lines. Excellent work, Serenus! Angi~

Thank you Angi!
You killed the flow in this piece, bro. And as usual, you put that message front and center... well done!

thanx Phil!
I love your intentions, your meaning, probably the most important thing for me in a piece, sounds sincere. It's very no bs, and you initially come off as sardonic and egotistical only to then go into a righteousness that's likeable and what's more is you inspire other to set right what's wrong with the world but what's more is how it flows, and rhymes and could easily be performed. I'm a sucker for good spoken word and this would be great on stage. Nice!
