Losing My Religion

Losing My Religion

A Poem by Sirius King

Losing My Religion

(Poem by Serenus)

Getting to know God…has been on my mind

So how do I become a “Good Christian?”

When I feel like organized crime

Is just a step up from organized religion

With a history of supporting slavery

Worshiping at the altar of hate

Witch hunts giving no immunity

Committing and covering up child rape

The church has become a false idol

And I will bow to him no more

Feeling the only way to heaven

Is through the churches doors

Now don’t get me wrong

The church does plenty of good- it does indeed

And most people have good intentions

But what road do those intentions lead?

Prosperity preachers on TV

The Vatican trimmed in gold

How many hungry people would that feed?

Is money and power the price on your soul?

Highly Hypocritical

Confusing what’s spiritual- With the mythical

Stuck in your traditions

Tied to your interpretations and rituals

A history of secrecy

The heresy is habitual

Imposing your opinion

A fools wisdom-becomes visual

Condemning me? ...You have nerve

1 John 4:8 = God is Love

So what god do you serve?

Is it just me?

Is my view flawed?

Pushing religion out of the way

So I can truly see God?

I need to have a talk with Him

And ask for a clearer vision

To all of my questions and concerns

He’s the only one that will listen

 Because I’m seeking a relationship

 With God that’s genuine

And that’s the reason

Why I made the decision

To keep Him and lose religion

Love this poem! But I don't like how you used the word Christianity so vaguely. There are other branches of Christianity that don't treat Christianity as a religion but as a way of life or as a relationship with God. The Vatican and the Pope system, for example, would be of Roman Catholic origin. Not necessarily all Christian branches have this system. It's just that, a few of these branches keep modifying what is being said in the bible. I really dislike how they just take what God puts in there and twist it into something that they want. May the truth take surface soon.

Oh my gosh I so know how you feel. I used to go to church and youth group and church and other such meetings but then I started seeing things that shouldn't have been happening and I kinda gave up for a while. What you have to say makes a lot of sense and I'm glad that I found out I'm not the only one feeling this way thank you :)

The monotheistic mega faiths have two Gods. The God of the orthodoxy and the God of the mystic. The god of the orthodoxy is yawhey from the old testament. Commander in chief of the Israelites, handed down a dick load of rules to his "chosen people " then promptly turned his back on them. That god's kind of a dick. The god of the mystic is the unknowable one that jesus, Buddha, lao zhu, rumi and other mystics throughout historywweretuned into. TThat's the god of love. That god's difficult to tune into for a great number of people because he's unexplainable and has a habit of defying all rules and logic created by the orthodox god to keep the tribes in line so they tend to tune into the orthodox god causehhe's easier to understand. It'shis way or no way this is hard to explain on my phone. I hope it makes sense.

Pushing religion out of the way So I can truly see God...

While I remain part of the Church, I know just what you mean. There is a vast difference between religion and faith. God is so much more than a building, a sacrament, a prayer... and to truly have a relationship with him, you must see beyond all of these. A thoughtful write, Serenus.

strange that to God... it's not that it's irrelevant. It's that it becomes absolute. god IS a vessel. Should you become the vessel - you'd wish you were either human, dead human, or another god :))

i have to agree with this, serenus...

i have the catholic background and have long since abandoned organized religion...and in a way it is like clearing the way to find the truth...

"organized religion is too much organized crime" yep...but then as one reviewer said...it isn't all religions or christianity that feed into these problems...
just some..but for me...well...i find spirituality much more a private thing these days.

a write that makes us think hard...and one that will create reaction both for and against...

but a write that has a lot of power in the words...volatile..

Clapping my hands Dear Serenus ...Well Done !
since you brought it up I shall reply ...
My Pastor always said...
keep your eye on the Lord, not the man..and that word "man" included "him our pastor"
always told us to bring our Bibles to follow what he was reading...not just for us to absorb..but it was a checks and balance for our pastor to keep his eye upon the true word of God...
I have never forgotten that lesson from a very humble man of God...
just had to share... you can delete if needed ( :

Thete is a marked difference between religion and spirituality. For me, my religion is power. The life force that intertwines all living creatures. I believe that positive life forces rise, and negative life forces descend. Figuratively aligned with the religious concepts of Heaven and Hell. I allign myself with the positive energy.
My biggest problem with the God concept is the dogma related to the "everything is pre ordained" by God. If that was truly the case, I wouldn't have to look before I stepped off the sidewalk and churches wouldn't have lightning rods.

There are many roads to enlightenment. I do believe in a God. Mine just has no form, no agenda, and no son.
Thought provoking piece of work.

This reminds me of a line I wrote in one of my poems, I'm Okay. Where I said:

Splitting my time between confused teachers
And useless preachers.
Lip-syncing the word of the Lord,
Feeding of our hopes, our money theirs to hoard.

A very good, honest write. Good work, man ^^
