Duty

A Poem by Harry Mora

Duty

Harry Louis Mora

It’s a shame you don’t appreciate me

All the things I’ve done

All the countless victories

The hard fought battles won

You’ve shown me your true loyalty

And now I am ashamed

That I trusted you like family

Yet you almost mock that I remain

Duty bound I kept on toiling

You looked on and didn’t care

As my structure kept uncoiling

Pain blurred my determined stare

Now I march on for my own honor

No longer loyal to the cause

I have witnessed many horrors

Yet my pain gave you no pause

Your smile mocks my suffering

Your words ring empty to my ears

Your statements far from nurturing

A slap in the face for these hard years

Don’t you dare act so surprised

When I turn my back as you have done

You’ve shown me all that I despised

Forgotten that through my blood your fight was won.
